Battlefield 3 So Far

Battlefield 3

Well Battlefield 3 is out and everyone is playing it and everyone is starting to complain about it. Without further ado lets talk BF3.

BF3 is an excellent game that will surely give MW3’ers a run for their money but it does have its problems. When everyone rushed home to their consoles they were sad to discover that EA has not yet fixed their server problems as they have always had in the past. It still is glitchy but not as bad as the beta was. Sometimes you can even be stuck at the loading screen and have to restart your console. But these are only technically issues with the game that can be fixed by EA.

The gameplay itself is superb. The single player is very short but it gives you a compelling story. The multiplayer actually has you doing military tactics such as flanking maneuvers and providing suppressing fire to confuse and disorient. New gameplay that was the blurring effect that happens when you provide suppressing fire (firing close to someone but not hitting them). Another new gameplay feature that DICE studious has brought to the table is the use of vehicles. Yes you had the ability to use vehicles in past Battlefield games but this time you have the ability to customize your vehicle with different types of weapons and different enemy counter measures. Oh not to mention you can customize your gun now too (EA be tryin to hate on COD) oh not to mention they have one new vehicle, the jet. Yes that’s correct you can fly a jet. My feelings on this are mixed. In the beginning the only thing you have is a gun for engagements for air vs air fighting not to mention its hard to shoot someone down. But all in all its great gameplay and a ton of fun to tryout.

All in all I would have to say BF3 has its perks but they also have their major disadvantages when it comes to their servers. Today their servers were great up until around dinner time when they began to time out. I get the feeling this will continue for a while but you will see them get better as time goes on. All in all I would give this game a 3.5 out of 5.

Madden NFL 12 Preview

madden12

It’s August and that means what it means every year. Fans are gearing up for the release of EA sports perennial hit Madden. However Madden 12 plans to change the game entirely. On the outside it looks like the same graphics with updated rosters but EA is bringing a lot more to the table. To begin with EA is bringing in a new collision engine, which is going to improve game play with much more realistic tackling. Instead of players being seemingly “sucked in” to a defender everything will appear more fluid and realistic. Adding to the realism is the injuries now sustained by player. Previously a player would get hit and be injured without much explanation but now you will see injuries occur and for the first time concussions will be recognized. Another feature being added will be more realistic camera angles to help bring a more authentic NFL broadcast to the game.

The most important change to Madden 12 will be the “Dynamic Player Performance”. This is a feature that I am doing cartwheels for. Now players ability will based on real life traits as opposed to statistics. This means that Vick will be able to pass and scramble where as if you think you’re running with Peyton Manning you’re way wrong. Manning however will remain more poised in the pocket looking for an open receiver where Vick often would take off running. Also, EA will implement Veteran status. Older players will be able to improve young players simply by being on the roster. This and other intangible qualities such as confidence. Madden 12 is going to be great this year, improving upon everything they needed to from last year. Look for Madden NFL 12 to hit game store on August 30.
