Gaming College Inquierer

It’s Friday, Friday, getting down on Friiiday!!!!! Don’t worry I can write this, she was bullied out of school. Well it is Friday and boy is it needed. Today some pretty good gaming news came through and it isn’t boringish.

First thing I noticed today was Nike’s newest shoes. Now most people probably don’t care so much about what Nike is doing, unless it involves Indonesia and children. But today the bids started for their limit edition Marty McFly shoes. Yes, Nike has made 1500 pairs of the famous self tying shoes from the even more famous movie Back to the Future II. The money from the shoes is going completely to the Micheal J Fox foundation for Parkinson disease research, so that’s a good thing. Google co founder Sergey Brin announced that Google will match the proceeds up to 50 million dollars until 2012. Now this is pretty much is just the epitome of awesome, McFly shoes, 100% of proceeds going to charity, and Google is matching those proceeds, what could be bad for you and me. Well the downside is that in the first round of bids, one pair of sneakers went for a whopping $75,000 and at the moment the lowest starting bid is at $4,050! Oh and those are for size 7′s, if you want anything in normal people sizes, you have whip about a minimum of another thousand. If you want to check out the ebay page and add a dollar to the cause just click here.

If you don’t want to pay a mortgage to get some shaweet shoes, then just donate to the Micheal J Fox foundation! Every dollar brings us one step closer to finding a cure.

Today is also a day that will be lived in infamy. Activision has won their lawsuit over the domain name ModernWarfare3.com, and boy did they go at this site hard. And by hard I don’t mean like a RPG to the face, I mean like a AC-130 on Wasteland during Ground War. For those of you who don’t remember, back in early July, it was realized by the gaming community and more importantly the higher ups in Activision, that the site ModernWarfare3.com was not owned by the publishing giant. While this shouldn’t have been something to laugh or worry about, it turned out that it was Activision being caught with their pants down. The site actually redirected you to Battlefield 3, and it was a stunt that EA didn’t even know about. Much of the hilarity is for the fact that Activision didn’t buy the domain name to a game that will probably have the biggest entertainment launch of all time. Now if you type in the website, it just directs you to google or bing, so that kinda sucks.

And it is not just Modern Warfare 3 that is being talked about, but also Modern Warfare 4. At the Call of Duty XP weekend, Sledgehammer CEO Glen Schofield stated that he would basically doing flips if he was offered to do MW4. “If they said ‘you’re doing Call of Duty something else’,” he continued, “I’d be pretty excited about it.” It’s pretty much confirmed with this that Sledgehammer’s next game will be a Call of Duty game…I don’t know how to feel about this…

Last thing that you might actually are about today is that Blizzard announced that there will be 6 new products coming out in the next 3 years. Now put yur junk away you dirty little boys, it has already been confirmed that 3 of those 6 products is stuff we already knew about. Expansions to WoW and Starcraft II along with Diablo III. Now these are still things to get all revved up for, but personally I was hoping for new things, not things I know about.

Hey guys not too much news on the eve of PAX prime inSeattleWashingtonbut all is quiet before the storm. But without further a due let’s get right into it.

PAX aka Penny Arcade Expo will be held on August 26-28. For those of you who don’t know what PAX is let’s break it down for you. PAX is help twice a year (Boston and Seattle) in which hosts a variety of video game stars and producers, shows off the latest upcoming games and shows off new ones to be released in the following year or years. Basically PAX is like Gamescom and E3 on a slightly smaller scale. PAX was created by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik in 2004. PAX is basically the Thanksgiving of the gaming community. Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik idea was to give this community an insight into what the gaming world holds for them. PAX started out inSeattleat theWashingtonStateConvention Centerand has done so well that in 2010 PAX is now held twice a year in bothSeattleandBoston. PAX has helped bring the gaming community together in one big “festivus” and will continue to do so in the future.

Like I said PAX prime is coming up so let’s look at some things you will see there this year. You will see some games that you have seen before at Gamescom such as various Star Wars games, Uncharted 3, and maybe even some Halo goodies from 343 industries and Bungie. Speaking of which as you may have noticed in a past inquirer post 343 industries will be hosting Halo fest at this years PAX prime. Keep an eye out on Halo Anniversary gamplay and new cinematics and possible gameplay from the upcoming title Halo 4. Halo Fest will also feature interviews with directors, producers, and possibly actors from your favorite halo games so you do not want to miss out on the coverage.

If you have ESPN on your xbox 360 I have good news and bad news. The good news is that you’re getting a cool update. The bad news is that you’re getting an update. (No this is not a typo.) ESPN users for xbox can new have quicker access to all their favorite sports throught the new my sports tab and some other cool features. People who have all ready tried it said they really likes it but it does take some getting used to it. I personally have ESPN on my xbox and have gotten the new update. I’m always on the go and I need my Philly football and with the new add ons it really helps. I personally give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Earlier this week Deus Ex came out with some pretty decent numbers in sales. Check out this gameplay below.

The big news of the day is that on November 20th, four days before Thanksgiving, we will all be able to fill our tummy’s with sweet Zelda goodness. Skyward Sword has gotten its North America release date. Finally the Wii has a game that we, the hardcore gamer, can play and not feel ashamed about! Coincidentally the 2oth is also the 25th year anniversary of the original Legend of Zelda.

From what Nintendo has told us, Skyward Sword will be ”a massive, multilayered world that takes players from dark dungeons to a diverse overworld to cloud cities in the sky, requiring a combination of puzzle-solving and swordplay to unlock all of its secrets. Link soars through the air on the wings of a majestic bird while exploring the game’s sky area, providing players with unprecedented freedom of movement as they progress on their adventure. The quest lays the foundation for the events in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is frequently cited as one of the greatest video games of all time.” Sounds like the Medieval version of Bioshock Infinite, and the end leads up to the first Bioshock.

In other news, Sony along with their announcement of a PS3 price-cut, has released the Playstation Vita specs. From just the specs, it seems to be a pretty piece of hardware. Basically it is the PSP on steroids and with Cloud technology and a touch screen. For the full specs, head on over to videogamer.com

At Gamescon today, one of the biggest showings was the new Assassin’s Creed: Revelations trailer. It’s Ezio and Altair kicking ass to a rhythmic toon…oh and Desmond’s somewhere in the video as well.

The final piece of news for today has to do with the Windows 7 Phone. Now we all know that it has Xbox Live capabilities on it, but now Microsoft has announced that Kinectimals will be coming to the phone! Now I know you all are quivering with excitement over this piece of news, but the game will be including bears and have leader boards and achievements. So all of you gamerscore whores better get in on this.

The Hype Monster

***WARNING*** This article is a short story in the sense that It is short, but you know it will take more than 5 minutes to read

Hype, in my opinion, has become one of the most important aspects of today’s AAA game. It has become so powerful, that it can literally make or break a game. I’ve talked a little bit about hype and how AC1 was bashed because of this hype monster that was created in its wake. It was pointed out to me that a game with an insane amount of hype will at a lot of times, get a lower score, not because it is a bad game, but because it didn’t live up to the expectations that was created for it. After hearing this it made me think about games in general and made me wonder, is that true? Is it possible for a great game to lose a great score because of its hype? Actually can the flip side happen as well, can a game get a better score because it’s great hype or even lack of hype?

Nothing big to talk about today, oh wait, I’m wrong! Official Xbox Magazine stated that later this summer we should expect a reveal of Grand Theft Auto V. This little tidbit of amazingness can be seen in the rumor section of the magazine’s latest issue. I don’t know about you guys, but I am stoked for this. When GTAIV came out sandbox games were radically different, it should be interesting to see how the iconic series has changed since the last installment.

In other news, all gamers should hate the Today Show, even if it is the greatest morning show. On today’s episode, the cast decided to jab at older people who play video games stating that basically it is creepy and wrong. Their main argument is that if you are in your thirties you should be doing other things besides video games.

Well to put it bluntly, fuck them :D It’s a hobby for most people anyways, so Today Show, your argument is invalid.

On a final heartfelt note, Bungie released a statement thanking everyone for all of the support of their flagship franchise. This marks the end of Bungie’s role with the Halo Universe as they hand over the reigns to 343 Studios. I think we all know that no matter how good Halo 4 will be, just about everyone will trash it for not being Bungie. But only time could tell and we hope that Bungie’s next project will be just as epic.

The Daily Gaming News

Hey guys, hope your 4th of July was a blast! Not much news today, but on the July 2nd Congress decided to stop looking at who can buy video games, and have moved their attention to streaming video games. Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar, who created bill S.978, states that the bill would have tougher enforcement on copyright laws.

This would mean that if someone does a “Let’s Play” on youtube or any streaming site, and does not have proper authorization from the developer, then commentator could see criminal charges and jail time up to 5 years. An editorial by Shoryuken points out that the bill is extreamly broad and can be applied to kids lip syncing or even karaoke in a bar. It is also pointed out that if you embed someone else’s video onto a page you can face the same charges.

This last piece of info is particularly bad for sites like ours who aren’t big enough to get instant responses to using other’s videos.

You can read the 3 page bill here

Does anyone remember Hellgate: London? You no that game that was suppose to be the most epic, but turned out to fail harder than Star Wars: Galaxies (one a side note SWG servers are being shut down) and was taken off the world wide web…yeah well it’s back and Free-to-Play!

Well to be fair it’s in open beta right now, but anyone can sign up and see what Korean developer HanbitSoft has changed to make it potentially not suck. I was SUPER stoked for when it first came out so I will be finding every little flaw if whatever and make sure they know about it…because Diabloesce RPGing with Elder Scrolls first person action and a splash of Guild Wars graphics sounds like a good time to me.

There will be a “mini-review” coming for this game so you all can see if it’s worth the hassle or not
